KEVIN FLYNN WANTS GREENBELT EXPANDED IN OAKVILLE
October 24, 2012
Oakville – Kevin Flynn, MPP for Oakville has written to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing to request that the Province extend the Greenbelt to Glenorchy Conservation Area in North Oakville.
“It would be my desire to see the Greenbelt grow across the Province starting right here in Oakville,” said Kevin Flynn.
“Preserving our natural environment is extremely important to the residents of Oakville. As Oakville and Halton continue to grow, it is important we maintain our green spaces for future generations,” said Kevin Flynn.
Glenorchy consists of over 400 hectares of environmentally sensitive lands including forests, creeks, wetlands and valley lands. The area is consistent with the principles enshrined in the Greenbelt.
Established in 2005 by the Ontario Government, the Greenbelt encompasses over 1.8 million acres of land and covers the Niagara Escarpment, the Oak Ridges Moraine, Rouge Park, agricultural land, pristine environment and hundreds of rural towns and villages.
